Knock, knock...

Hubby returned home at nearly midnight and said I had a friend waiting to come inside. I looked out and saw this waiting on my front door mat!

Eww!

I am a country girl and have seen/shooed/caught/squashed my fair share of creep-crawlies, but this one was freaky!! I know it is hard to gauge the scale, but those wood chips that had blown in from the garden are nearly as large as a 50 cent piece...so this mama is about as large a spider as I have ever seen.

If anyone knows what species of spider it is, I would love to know. It is definitely not a Huntsman, as I am quite familiar with them.

  1. Yuck! I have a morbid fear of all but the smallest spiders and this one is really creepy! I've never seen one like it before, and don't ever want to again!

  4. This beast looks huge. Instead of stopping for a pic, I would have run away...

  5. Mary-Laure, it was definitely one of those times where you wonder at the sanity of trying to get an up-close pic! (and I did run back inside, shut the door and put the draught stopper in place!!).

MaMa, I wondered if perhaps they were babies over it's body - but I wasn't game to find out!
